  • Jean Monnet Chair

Since 2004, László Milassin, head of department (00 36 96 503 478, milassin##kukac##sze.hu) is the holder of the ’Jean Monnet Chair’ at Széchenyi István University. This EU programme intends to establish a network among professors aiming to teach EU-related matters at a university level. The Jean Monnet Chair can be applied for, and the European Union provides support of 60.000 Euros. This amount has been used for the organization of trainings, conferences, study trips and proceedings – up until today. The functioning of the Chair is governed by the contract concluded by the European Commission and Széchenyi István University. Since the Chair is awarded to high-ranking universities, it is beneficial to be a member of this network in regards to the further development of the university.

Holders of the Chair are the Jean Monnet Professors, for whom annual meetings are organized in Brussels. They discuss the most relevant union issues, evaluate the higher education programmes, and hold official negotiations with the leaders of the European Commission. Furthermore, ad hoc conferences and symposiums are organized in one of the EU member states, as well. The European Commission regularly contacts the Jean Monnet professors (European Community Studies Association), and asks their opinion concerning the most relevant union matters.
